Unity Walk in Honor of Black History Month & African American Live Museum

Join the City of Kentwood on Saturday, February 22, 2025, for a Unity Walk in honor of Black History Month. Residents are invited to gather in the Von Maur Court at 11 a.m. for a walk starting at Von Maur to the food court and ending in front of Von Maur at 11:20 a.m.


After the walk, a special ceremony will take place at 11:20 a.m. in front of Von Maur, featuring:

  • Welcome, and remarks from Mayor Kepley in front of Von Maur.
  • Music Brandon Fitzpatrick -Michigan Jazz Fusion pianist Brandon Fitzpatrick was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1994. He is a pianist, composer, producer, arranger, band leader, and musical director. A self-taught pianist, Fitzpatrick started playing the keyboards when he was 4.

Celebrating Legacy and Light

Following the Unity Walk, enjoy the African American Live Museum, presented by New Hope Baptist Church.

The event starts at 1 p.m. Stop by and experience over 20 live performances featuring historical Black figures. Travel through time and immerse yourself in history as these performances bring influential African American figures to life throughout Woodland Mall.

  • Over 20 Live Performances
  • Historical Personalities represented in 2025: The Six Triple Eight Battalion, Nikki Giovanni, Marvin Gaye, Leontyne Price, A Phillip Randolph, Magic Johnson and De La Soul.


We are excited to present the live African American Museum, Celebrating Legacy and Light, to the community this year. This program offers a unique and captivating way to learn about the impact of Black Americans' accomplishments. Woodland Mall is pleased to host this fantastic event again this year.
